Contact

Communicating with each other is easier than ever these days. We have virtually instant communication with the whole world. Our live's are overflowing with every imaginable type of communication gizmo. It's all instant news, instant entertainment and instant gratification.
But somehow with all the e-mail, cell phones and communication devices we use it seems real human contact is taking a beating, and we are becoming more isolated than ever. Sure we stay "in touch" more in the 21st century, but with much less eye contact and human touch involved. We are wrapping ourselves up into these little cocoons of annonimity, typing on a keyboard, talking on our wireless devices, texting notes through cyberspace. I see people walking in groups talking on their cell phones but not talking to each other. The other day I parked my car at the Home Depot and noticed a girl staring at her cell phone in the front seat of her car all by herself. Fiteen minutes later when I came out of the store, she was still sitting there still staring at the phone. It just seemed a little sad, like she was waitng for someone to materialize out of the screen maybe. Maybe not.
Maybe it will all pass and we will realize our need for real human contact is alive and well. I'm not saying I'm immune to the technology. I'm not. But there comes a time when you realize it's time to turn off the TV, shut off the phone, comb your hair and go relate to someone in person. It's a much richer experience than text messaging and by the way, sometimes a lot more frightening, but it's worth it! Be brave! Take a chance. Life is short...
